Chemical Toughening
The process of chemical toughening produces glass without any heat toughening marks or optical distortion. The glass is submersed in a bath containing a potassium salt (typically potassium nitrate) at over 400°C. This produces an ion exchange between the sodium ions in the glass surface and the potassium ions from the bath solution. The chemical process creates a substantial toughened ‘skin’ for the glass making it far more resilient and durable.
Chemically toughened glass is then laminated on-site at Trend Glass Technology to become safety rated glass.
Glass will be chemically toughened in accordance with EN 12337-1, and batch tested in accordance with EN 1288-3.
